Analyzing and Quoting from the speech
Chimamanda Adichie delivered this speech in 2009 to a crowd at the Ted Global 2009- Conference in Oxford. The people in the audience were there to her about her powerful words about a single story. The Ted Global speakers were all very smart people, like doctors and lawyers but Chimamanda was a novelist from Nigeria. In the speech she tells about how she started writing:
"I wrote exactly the kinds of stories I was reading: All my characters were white and blue-eyed, they played in the snow."
When I read this I was surprise about how much people knew about each other. People only know by what they read they don’t think that there is anything beond what they hear. I was surprised that the only thoughts that she knew about where the ones that she read.
Another quote that Chimamanda said was:
"She asked if she could listen to what she called my “tribal music,” and was consequently very disappointed when I produced my tape of Mariah Carey."
I can understand why she would be disappointed in the music she listened to because I wouldn’t think that a person from Nigeria would know who Mariah Carey is. It makes me think that everyone is alike and not to listen to anything untill yiu see it with your own eyes. If you judge a book by its cover you might be wrong, so don’t listen to a single story and always be willing to learn more.

Starvebucks
The event or issue that inspired the cartoon was that a high shool teacher thinks that starbucks underpays coffee farmers. The people and/or objects in the cartoon is the starbucks logo with money sings on the picture. The specific artistic techniques used in the cartoon is symbolism and labeling.Three things that you might infer from the cartoon would be that starbucks under pay the coffee farmers, the can afford to pay them more, and they are almost robbing them out of money. The message of this picture is that starbucks should pay the coffee farmers more because they can afford to and they deserve more money. The special interest groups that would agree/disagree with the cartoon message would be the coffee farmers and people would agree with this and starbucks owners would disagree. The artist’s point of view about the topic portrayed in the cartoon is that starbucks should pay the farmers more money for their coffee. This cartoon is both persuasive and not persuasive. This is persuasive because the coffee farmers might not sell starbucks the coffee untill they pay them more money. This is not persuasive because people might not care about the underpayment and just keep buying their coffee
Cancer Sticks
The event that inspired the cartoon is that cigarettes cause cancer deaths. The people and objects in the cartoon is the skeleton of a camel, it says cancer sticks and the camel represents a type of cigarette. The specific artistic techniques used in the cartoon is symbolism, exaggeration, labeling. Three things that you might infer from the cartoon is that smoking can kill you, cigarettes cause cancer, and you shouldn’t smoke. The message of the cartoon is smoking can cause cancer and death. The special interest groups would agree/disagree with the cartoon message would be that healthy people would agree but smokers and cigarette companies would disagree. The artist’s point of view about the topic portrayed in the cartoon woulld be “against – cigarettes = death”.This cartoon is persuasive because if people don’t want cancer or die from cigarettes they will not smoke.
UNable
The event or issue that inspired the picture is to say that the United Nation is not any help to the world so in other words they are helpless like a turtle. The people or object in the picture is a turtle turned over that can’t get back up. The specific artistic techniques used in the picture are symbolism and labeling. Three things that I can infer from the picture are the United Nation is helpless, they don’t help anyone, and that they are unable of anything. The message of the picture is that the U.N. has been around since 1945 and the artist uses a helpless turtle to prove what he think is an equally helpless U.N. A special interest group would agree with the picture message would be people that are surrounded by violence. People that would disagree would be the people that work for U.N. The artist’s point of view about the topic is that he thinks the U.N. doesn’t do anything to help. This picture is not persuasive because it is not really trying to make you do anything it’s just giving its point of view.
A Tale of Two India's
One side of India is uneducated with no work that live in the country and the other side is educated with good jobs that live in the city, that is why they have an economic disparity. If you are born poor, you will stay poor. If you are born rich, you will stay rich. Unless you get educated you will always be poor. That is what a caste system is, a system of social classes.China and India are different because China is more advanced. They are similar because they both had controlling governments and a large population.
Emerging means to grow economically and to be open for investments.India is emerging because it now has educated jobs. It has an effect of the world because it offers them cheap workers.India has been growing in the past 20 years because the government doesn't use socialism anymore so it can have an economic growth. The middle class has doubled because more people are moving to get better jobs and better education. The gap between the poor and middle class might make the poor become more poor. The international companies moved to India because they are trained and work for less.

"I Have A Dream"
Dr. King's dream was that nobody would be treated different for the color of their skin. Yes, i think his dream has come true for the most part because everyone is treated equal but some people are still racist. Only some people still judge for skin color but its not most people. Yes, my family and I are living the dream.
